On August 17, 2024, the hacktivist group Anonymous—specifically claimed by the user X (formerly Twitter) @W0nd3rGhost, launched a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack against the Venezuelan government organization Lotería de Caracas. The attack caused the organization’s website to be temporarily unavailable as part of the #OpVenezuela campaign. It is unclear whether any data was exfiltrated or whether there was any material loss beyond the website’s downtime.
