Group 'Sistem Fail' Claims Responsibility for Data Leak Affecting 90,000 Patria System Accounts
In May 2023, a group calling itself “Sistem Fail” (via the Twitter account @FailSistema) claimed to have obtained data from approximately 90,000 accounts on the Patria System, the Venezuelan government’s platform used as an e-wallet and for the distribution of state bonuses and subsidies. According to the group, a configuration error exposed more than 90,000 accounts to the internet and made them accessible to attackers. The compromised information reportedly included users’ home addresses, personal data, bank accounts, and vehicle information. As proof, the group published a video and screenshots of user accounts. The attack occurred amid wage protests in Venezuela and coincided with an attack on the Public Prosecutor’s Office website claimed by another group (The Binary Guardians).
Venezuelan Public Prosecutor’s Office Website Defaced and Alleged Breach of Patria System Accounts by ‘Sistem Fail’ / TeamHDP
On May 4, 2023, attackers defaced the Public Prosecutor’s Office website with political messages and references to TeamHDP/Sistem Fail. Media outlets confirmed the defacement. The claim regarding 90,000 Sistema Patria accounts is documented in a separate record.
Hack of teleSUR’s Spanish-language website (telesurtv.net) by TeamHDP
The Spanish-language website of the state-run broadcaster teleSUR (telesurtv.net) was hacked on April 11, 2023, by the group TeamHDP, which posted articles with messages such as “LONG LIVE FREE VENEZUELA #HACKED BY #TeamHDP’ and demands for the release of political prisoners in Venezuela and Cuba. The network’s president, Patricia Villegas, confirmed the attack and stated that they regained control within a few minutes. The group compromised an account with publishing privileges on the website.
TeamHDP Leaks More Than 5,000 Confidential Files from the Bolivarian Navy’s Permanent Evaluation Board
The Venezuelan hacktivist group TeamHDP, in cooperation with former intelligence officials, claimed to have obtained more than 5,000 confidential files from the Permanent Evaluation Board of the Bolivarian Navy, which reports to the Ministry of Popular Power for Defense. The first batch of 500 documents was published on June 27, 2022, on the website dataconfirmada.com. The disclosed information reportedly includes personnel data from the Honor Guard, the DGCIM, the SEBIN, high-ranking officials, and alleged operatives deployed abroad.
TeamHDP/System Failure Leaks DGCIM Records; SEBIN Is Only Mentioned in Passing
In September and October 2021, TeamHDP/System Failure disclosed or provided to the media records primarily related to the General Directorate of Military Counterintelligence (DGCIM), including profiles, locations, tasks, and work plans of counterintelligence agents. TeamHDP Compromises the Internal Messaging System of Venezuela’s Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ)
The Venezuelan hacktivist group TeamHDP compromised the internal messaging system of Venezuela’s Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) on August 16, 2021, and, using the court’s own system, sent mass messages to the country’s judges demanding the release of political prisoners. The messages included phrases such as “Freedom now for the 268 political prisoners kidnapped by the dictatorship. You are also responsible” and a reference to Padrino López (“For Padrino López, it’s 10 million dollars. Dead or alive”). The group also claimed to have downloaded information on all staff and collaborators within the court’s structure. The action was framed as a tribute to Óscar Pérez. The group has claimed responsibility; the TSJ has not issued an official statement confirming the breach.
TeamHDP alters the flight information displays at Maiquetía and Porlamar airports with anti-Maduro messages
On July 6, 2021, the electronic flight information displays at Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía and Santiago Mariño International Airport in Porlamar showed the message “Maduro dictator” along with the acronym “DEA.” The @ThePinguinHDP account, founder of the hacktivist group TeamHDP, claimed responsibility for the incident, stating that it had only modified some data in the system. Airport authorities reported sabotage of their internet network, and SEBIN arrested Bolipuertos employee Humberto Félix Aviño Salazar as an alleged accomplice, while an arrest warrant was issued for Gerardo José Gil Dams.
TeamHDP (#LaListaJustin) breaches the Carnet de la Patria system, cancels memberships, and discloses data on officials and users
On May 6, 2017, the Venezuelan opposition hacker group TeamHDP, linked to the hashtag #LaListaJustin and the Twitter accounts @yosoyjustin (Yustin) and @ERHDP (Er Pingüino HDP), gained access to the Venezuelan government’s Carnet de la Patria system website. The attackers claimed that the intrusion was “extremely simple” and was motivated by a desire to expose Nicolás Maduro’s regime. They took screenshots of user profiles containing personal data (ID numbers, phone numbers, email addresses, Twitter accounts, home addresses, participation in PSUV events, and even whether the person had a pet), published information on high-ranking officials and Chavista leaders, and claimed to have penetrated and modified the database, “canceling” the officials’ affiliations with the system. Among those mentioned as affected were Nicolás Maduro, Cilia Flores, Diosdado Cabello, Delcy Rodríguez, Ernesto Villegas, Pedro Carreño, and Carmen Meléndez, as well as lists of officials from the PNB, CICPC, SEBIN, CONATEL, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Later, when Maduro scanned his ID card on national television, the system displayed a message stating that the person did not exist or that the ID card had been invalidated. The attackers announced the release of more than 450 PDF files and over a thousand pages of conversations.
